Social Media Breakfast San Diego

SMBSD-Start your day the Social Way

Hello All

I am very excited to be bringing social media breakfast to beautiful San Diego. Traditionally the first meeting of the group is fairly open forum for discussion around different social media outlets and individuals use for them. It is a monthly event and as it progresses....speakers are brought it....I would LOVE some input on speaking topics that everyone would find interesting!

Hi Holly!

One of the things that's done at each Society for Technical Communication (STC) meeting is to have a "Who needs a job? / Who has a job open?" announcement time. Because it is a regular occurrence, people looking for jobs, and representatives of companies looking for people, tend to show up at the meetings. And because it's a focused area of expertise, people are likely to find good matches. I've seen a lot of connections made that way.

Besides, Red Door is looking for a few good people, so I have a particular interest in it at the moment. :-)

Looking forward to tomorrow,
Linda

Hi Linda

Haha...Isn't everyone looking for a few good people right now :) It is an interesting idea, but doesn't quite fit with the purpose of the event. Having attended the breakfast in other cities, it is really just a forum for sharing thoughts, knowledge and opinions on the ever changing space. It also happens that people make great connection through the event to further their network and their career, but more as an after thought. While we are all social gurus, I would hate to hear that someone has a negative experience because they lost a fixture in their team due to attending this event :)

Maybe we could make Career Connection the topic of a future breakfast and have a speaker about recruitment and work to connect employers and job seekers. That way people would know exactly what they are getting out of that specific event.

Thanks for the idea!!!!! :)

Oh well. :-)

For speakers, here are some thoughts:
- Selling clients and internal stakeholders on the value of social media participation.
- Can the value of social media participation be measured?
- What are the dangers/pitfalls of participating in social media? (or of not participating?)
- Companies' experiences with internal, closed social media (Yammer, for instance).
- Social media's place in collecting and broadcasting disaster information.
- Social media's impact on politics - a new community gathering place.
- Social media for focused demographics (I saw on site for cancer patients, I think...)

OK, that's all I've got at the moment. :-)
